Suspicious betting cases on the rise

The world of sports betting can be exciting and lucrative, but it’s not without its risks. In recent years, there has been a rise in suspicious betting cases that have raised concerns among industry experts and authorities alike. In this article, we’ll explore why these cases are on the rise and what you can do to protect yourself.

for suspicious and illegal activity. With the convenience of being able to access online gambling sites from anywhere at any time, individuals with malicious intent have sought to exploit these platforms for their own gain.

One common tactic used by those seeking to cheat the system is using bots to play games and win money without any actual human interaction. These bots can be programmed to make strategic moves that give them an unfair advantage over other players, allowing them to accumulate winnings quickly. Additionally, some fraudulent players have been known to collude with others in order to rig games or manipulate odds in their favor.

Given the increase in suspicious betting cases, the work of the International Association for Gambling Integrity has become increasingly important.

Report of the First Q of 2023

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) issued its report in the first quarter of 2023, reporting 40 incidents of suspicious gambling activities identified by its members.

In a statement, IBIA noted that its members “represent almost 50% of all commercial online betting globally and more than USD 137 billion in sports betting turnover.”

For his part, IBIA CEO, Khalid Ali, said that “IBIA’s surveillance and alert network provides the most complete, robust, and detailed information on suspicious betting activities worldwide.” He added that it “uses detailed customer account data that is only available to IBIA and its members and covers almost 50% of all regulated online commercial betting.”

Breaking down their report, they noted that the 40 suspicious betting incidents in Q1 affected nine sports in 22 countries and five continents, with soccer being the sport with the highest number of alerts reported worldwide. In other words, the 15 soccer alerts represent 38% of all alerts in Q1.

Spain is the country where the most alerts have been issued with 8, which equals the total number of alerts issued in the European country throughout 2022, which worries operators since it shows more significant malicious activity in this market.

Latin America needs to be watched.

Latin America has become one of the most attractive markets for operators due to the significant growth that the region has had in terms of bets. However, the IBIA mentions that care must be taken since, between 2018 and 2022, 105 suspicious alerts were registered throughout the region. Brazil was the main source of alerts (31%), followed by the Dominican Republic and Mexico (10%) and Argentina and Peru (9%).

In Brazil, soccer represented 63% of the alerts, followed by tennis (21%). In total, there were 33 suspicious alerts raised by IBIA members in Brazil during these five years.

High level security systems for your betting business.

Betting sites have become a popular destination for gamblers all over the world. From sports betting to casino games, an endless variety of gambling options are available online. However, with the rise of online gambling comes the risk of cyberattacks and fraud that can cause severe damage to a betting site’s reputation and financial stability.

To mitigate these risks, it is necessary for betting sites to invest in advanced security software that provides comprehensive protection against cyber threats. The most advanced security software utilizes various techniques such as encryption, multi-factor authentication, and intrusion detection to safeguard sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing can help identify potential weaknesses in the system before hackers or fraudsters can exploit them.

In conclusion, the increase in suspicious betting cases is a worrying trend that underscores the need for vigilance and caution when engaging in sports betting. By staying informed about the risks and taking steps to protect yourself, you can enjoy the excitement of sports betting without putting yourself in harm’s way.
